Hello from Inn The Sticks

It’s been a busy summer.

New chefs, new menus, a brand new food series, seafood adventures, wine trips and plenty happening across all five pubs, and dare we say it: Christmas menu planning.

From Liam Goldstone’s arrival with us at Inn The Sticks and the first unforgettable evening of The Food Society, to Mark & Mark’s 5 am trip to Brixham Fish Market and Celine’s rather exciting upcoming trip to Provence, lots is going on. Catch up in the last newsletter.

And now, we jump ahead to the next instalment. More summer lunches, hazy Friday nights, garden gatherings and many reasons to make a trip to one of our pubs; we’ve got plenty to share.

Here’s what’s been happening across Inn The Sticks…

The Food Society: #1 The GoldStone Supper Club

What happens when you bring great food, brilliant people and a summer evening together?

The first Food Society event at The Bull was everything we hoped for, and then some.

As the sun dipped over the Cotswold landscape, guests gathered in the Garden Marquee for an evening centred on Liam Goldstone's Goldstone Food Supper Club menu. Our front of house and kitchen teams worked together to create something genuinely special, while the marquee was dressed simply with branches from the garden and tables filled with herbs freshly picked from the allotment.

The menu was pure Goldstone: thoughtful, seasonal cooking with plenty of personality. From Merguez and anchovy Gildas and Isle of Wight tomatoes with burrata, strawberry and basil, to Cornish mackerel, slow-roasted duck and a beautiful vanilla panna cotta with peach and Szechuan pepper. Heavenly.

But, as Mark and Mark always intended, The Food Society is about more than the food.

Locals from The Bull and sister pubs, guests who travelled to join us, friends, suppliers and fellow food lovers all came together around the table. Strangers made friends. Acquaintances exchanged numbers. Conversations carried on long after the plates had been cleared.

That's exactly why we created The Food Society: to bring people together because they love food.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us, to Liam and the wider team for their support. And a big thank you to Harriet Fuller of Harriet Media for capturing the evening so beautifully.

And yes… we're already planning the next one.

We’re turning our regular pub quizzes into a Sunday evening 12-week Inn The Sticks Quiz League, with teams from all five pubs competing for points, prizes and the ultimate title of ITS Quiz Champions. Will your Inn The Sticks village pub be the brainiest of the bunch?

So get your team together, brush up on your general knowledge and prepare for some serious inter-pub rivalry.

Our stretch marquee opens straight onto the garden, with its own bar and plenty of room for guests to spill outside.

Perfect for summer parties, long lunches and relaxed weddings, with food to suit the occasion, from BBQs and grazing boards to canapés and a three-course sit-down meal.

The Pantry

Up to 30 guests

For something more intimate, The Pantry is a light-filled dining room overlooking the garden, with large tables made for sharing food, opening another bottle and settling in.

Ideal for birthdays, baby showers, family celebrations and leisurely lunches, it's relaxed and comfortable, with just enough occasion to make it feel special.

Smaller gathering. Longer lunch. Same warm welcome.

Across Inn The Sticks, each of our five pubs has its own personality, its own reason to visit and its own version of a very warm welcome.

Whether you're heading out for a countryside walk, meeting friends for lunch, planning a Friday night or simply looking for somewhere to linger, here's where we'd point you...

THE LANGLEY TAP, LANGLEY BURRELL

The sort of pub where you can arrive for one drink and still be there hours later. A proper local with a generous garden, seasonal food and plenty of room for friends, family and four-legged friends too.

THE WELLESLEY ARMS, SUTTON BENGER

Just off Junction 17, but a world away from the motorway. The Welly is made for good food, good wine and settling in. Thursday Steak Night is firmly in the diary, while Friday evenings belong around the fire pit, with pizza, tunes and a courtyard made for summer.

THE NEELD ARMS, GRITTLETON

A village pub with a little more up its sleeve. Come for the food, stay in one of our six bedrooms and wake up with the Wiltshire countryside on your doorstep. Castle Combe is just three miles away, with Bath and Lacock within easy reach.

And there's something new cooking in the kitchen. Liam Goldstone has been working with Emma and her team on a fantastic new autumnal menu, with our fixed-price menu making way for a new light lunch offering packed with seasonal ideas.

THE BULL, HINTON

A 17th-century pub on the Cotswold Way. Come after a walk, stay for dinner or make an evening of it. Seasonal food, a beautiful setting and plenty of reasons to linger.

From 6th September, Sunday service will be running a little later, with the kitchen open from 12pm–5.45pm, perfect for a leisurely Sunday lunch after a morning exploring the countryside.

THE KING'S ARMS, DIDMARTON

A village pub in a new chapter. The interiors have had a seriously good refresh, while the welcome remains unmistakably Inn The Sticks.

Perfectly placed for Badminton Estate and Westonbirt, or simply somewhere to escape for lunch, dinner and a decent drink.

Five Pubs. Different personalities. Same Warm Welcome.
