Summer is in full swing at Inn The Sticks, and our pubs have been enjoying all the things we love most about this time of year: sunshine, good food, great company and plenty of reasons to gather.

From a fresh new look at The King’s Arms, to celebrations at The Bull, and a summer filled with sporting moments shared across the collection, lots is happening behind the scenes.

The Food Society First Event

A little reminder that our very first Food Society event at The Bull, Hinton, is just around the corner on August 6th; a collaboration with award-winning chef Liam Goldstone.

From The Coast To The Kitchen

A couple of days in Devon

Not your average seaside break…

While many head to Devon for a traditional seaside holiday, Mark and Mark had something rather different in mind.

Joining Wadworth Brewery and one of our seafood suppliers, Kingfisher, they set off before dawn (feeling just a little foggy after the previous evening's hospitality!) for a 5 am visit to Brixham Fish Market.

Watching the fishing boats arrive and seeing the incredible variety of freshly landed fish and shellfish was a fascinating insight into one of Britain's busiest fish markets. From the quayside to the auction floor, the trip offered a first-hand look at the care, craftsmanship and expertise that goes into supplying the freshest seafood.

It's all part of our commitment to understanding where our ingredients come from and ensuring the quality of the dishes served across the Inn The Sticks collection.

Mark, modelling this season's must-have accessory: the fish market hairnet. As for the beard snood... We'll let you decide whether it was there for hygiene or to help with the aroma!

From the fish market to the crab kitchen…

The day didn't end at Brixham Fish Market. Next stop was The New England Seafood in Paignton, home to the UK's largest crab kitchen.

After passing through rigorous food safety checks (complete with white coats, wellies, hairnets, and plenty of handwashing), Mark and Mark were given a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at the skilled, labour-intensive process of preparing fresh crab for kitchens across the country.

It certainly gave them a new appreciation for the craftsmanship behind every plate of crab served in our pubs, and perhaps explained why it's such a prized addition to the menu.

The perfect ending to a memorable couple of days came with a leisurely boat trip around the beautiful South Devon coastline, cruising from Paignton to Brixham. Dropping anchor in the bay, the group watched dolphins play in the water with a well-earned beer in hand.

After early starts, fish markets, crab kitchens and plenty of learning, it was a wonderful way to round off an insightful trip. Mark and Mark returned with a greater appreciation of the journey from sea to plate and plenty of inspiration for the menus across the Inn The Sticks collection.

Just off Junction 17, but a world away from motorway services. Our team have made The Welly the place to linger over great food, a bottle of wine, and one of the best Steak Nights around. Friday evenings belong by the fire pit, where pizzas, music and good company deserve a regular place in the diary.

The Neeld Arms, Grittleton

The Bull, Hinton
On the edge of the Cotswold Way, The Bull has entered an exciting new chapter under Executive Chef Liam Goldstone. Come for a walk, stay for seasonal cooking, or book your place at one of our new Food Society evenings. This is destination dining without the fuss.

The King's Arms, Didmarton
